Trump-Kennedy Center demands $1 million for musician's political stunt

After Donald Trump chose to attach his name to the Kennedy Center, jazz musician Chuck Redd opted to back out of his yearly Christmas Eve concert.

Now, the venue’s head is demanding steep financial compensation.

The 67-year-old performer pulled out of the yearly Jazz Jam holiday show, which he had hosted for nearly two decades, in the wake of a controversial renaming, shared less than a week before this event ensued.

On Friday, the Kennedy Center president criticized the musician’s decision to cancel and requested $1 million in damages as per a letter obtained by Fox News. He also referred to Redd’s cancellation as a political move.

‘Your decision to withdraw at the final moment, in reply to the Center’s recent renaming, which honors Trump’s extraordinary efforts to save the national treasure, is classic intolerance and very costly to a non-profit arts institution, he further shared in the letter.

The Venue president further criticized Redd for the lack of ticket sales and praised Trump for rescuing the center from nearly certain destruction before formally requesting damages from the longtime Christmas Eve Jazz Jam host.

“Your dismal ticket sales and lack of donor support, combined with last-minute cancellation, cost us considerably”,- the post read.
