A deadly blaze at the Birch by Romeo Lane in India’s North Goa has left more than 25 people dead and dozens injured.
According to reports from local media outlets, the huge fire broke out at the popular nightclub that is famous among many locals and tourists. The fire arose at about midnight after what the cops claim was a suspected gas cylinder explosion near the club’s kitchen area. However, some felt like it actually began on the dance floor and started to spread at a fast pace.
{img}During the time, there were nearly 100 people present inside. Investigators shared how many victims passed away from suffocation after they got trapped in the basement or the kitchen. This lacked proper ventilation and exits for an emergency escape. Among the dead, four of the victims were believed to be foreign nationals who were visiting India, while others were said to be staff members. Their exact identities are yet to be revealed. Those injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent care.
{img}Investigations are now taking place to determine the exact cause of the fire, as some fear that there might have been some serious security violations. The lack of proper permits was also previously flagged for irregular construction. The narrow and restricted access could have been another reason why people were unable to escape the tragedy in time, sources revealed.
