Just when you thought the controversy over American Eagle's ad campaign for Good Jeans was over comes more fuel to added to the fire.
Actress Sydney Sweeney just shared during a recent interview that she was so shocked by the backlash and people’s general perspective over this campaign. For her, it was merely about jeans and nothing else, but the way it played out was the worst nightmare for her and the brand.
{img}The ad was heavily criticized, with many linking good genes to Sydney’s appearance of having blonde hair, fair skin, and blue eyes. Some went as far as to dub this tone deaf and white supremacist imagery as days went on.
The says shared how she adores jeans and the brand in general, and also said she never supported any kind of hateful or divisive views of those linked to this campaign. Sweeney mentioned how staying silent might have given rise to a widened divide, instead of working to close it. She does hope to promote unity, instead of fueling more suspicion in the future.
{img}However, some fans felt the apology came six months too late. The debate has now again been reignited, and some do think it’s too little and just too late to behave in this manner.
