BTS member Suga has recently drawn widespread attention—not for a new release, but for a major real-world contribution supporting children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in South Korea.
In June 2025, Suga donated ₩5 billion (about $3.6 million USD) to help establish the Min Yoongi Treatment Center at Severance Hospital, part of the Yonsei University Health System in Seoul. The facility provides specialized long-term care for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder.
According to hospital officials, the center includes therapy programs focused on language development, behavioral support, and social-skills training, along with music-based group therapy designed to help patients improve communication and emotional interaction.
One of the most distinctive parts of the project is the MIND Program—short for Music, Interaction, Network, Diversity—a structured music-based therapy initiative developed in collaboration with pediatric psychiatry specialists at Severance Hospital. The program uses activities such as singing, instrument play, and collaborative performance to support emotional expression and social connection among children with ASD.
Importantly, Suga’s role extended beyond financial support. Medical partners confirmed that he worked alongside Professor Cheon Geun-ah, a specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry, to help design the music-centered social-skills training approach. He also participated directly in program preparation and volunteer sessions with children during its development stage.
The initiative represents one of the largest single donations ever made by an artist to Yonsei Medical Center, highlighting the scale of the project’s impact.
The treatment center officially opened in September 2025, marking the beginning of long-term clinical support services that combine research, therapy, and creative expression through music.
Some social media posts have suggested that children from the program already performed in a live concert as part of therapy outcomes. I cannot independently confirm this claim from verified hospital or major news sources.
Still, the Min Yoongi Treatment Center stands as one of the most significant artist-led medical support initiatives in recent K-pop history, demonstrating how music-driven collaboration between artists and healthcare professionals can contribute to long-term community care.
