Steven Spielberg, Dawson Leery's Favorite Director, Donates $25K to GoFundMe for James Van Der Beek's Family as Account Exceeds $1 Million

The GoFundMe campaign rolled out for the late actor James Van Der Beek and his family after the star's death has now crossed $1 million.

The news comes after his widow shared that they are in a severe financial crisis after the death of the father of six. This led many to come forward and donate, including family and friends of the star.

The fundraiser quickly exceeded the original goal as thousands came forward to help during this moment in time.

Among the notable contributions was a mega $25,000 donation by Hollywood actor Steven Spielberg and his wife, Kate Capshaw. His gift stood out in part because he had a very long and symbolic connection to Van Der Beek's famous character, Dawson, from Dawson's Creek. The latter actor idolized the director and filmmaker and always held him in the highest regard.

Van Der Beek had shared his cancer diagnosis very publicly, more than a year before his sudden death. He faced mounting medical challenges that reportedly strained the family's finances. The GoFundMe effort was aimed at assisting in covering the living expenses and medical bills, as well as ensuring stability for his young kids after his death.
