NYC mayor Zohran Mamdani has become a leading focal point in a growing politically linked clash with American President Donald Trump over immigration enforcement.
He slammed the ICE and referred to its aids as beyond cruel and those who were advocating stronger protections for immigrants inside his city.
He further emphasized how New York would be defending the rights of all citizens, pursuing legal challenges, and maintaining sanctuary city policies against aggressive federal enforcement.
In reply to that, Trump and some federal officials have sharply slammed him, calling his rhetoric extreme and a major threat to withholding the federal funding of the city.
There were even some suggestions about legal consequences in case he interferes with ICE operations, as Trump warned of intensified federal action if these policies impact ICE's work.
In reply to those federal pressures and growing threats, the Mamdani administration has given rise to an Interagency Response Committee so that it can plan the city and keep residents protected at all times.
