Passenger plane crashes into sea with 55 on board moments after take-off as shock footage shows wreck on shore

A passenger plane carrying 55 people on board experienced a major incident shortly after it took off from Mogadishu's Aden Abdulle International Airport in Somalia.

The jet was seen operating by Starsky Aviation and identified as a Fokker 50, which developed a major technical issue about 15 minutes into its flight to Gaalkacyo.

The crew made attempts to return to the airport, but during the emergency landing, the plane overshot the runway and continued off the tarmac, eventually coming to a rest in shallow water along the nearby shoreline of the Indian Ocean.

Shocking footage revealed online showed the damaged plane on or near the shore, with at least one wing that had broken, and the fuselage resting against the water's edge.
