4 Dead, 39 Poisoned by Toxic Wild Mushrooms in California

California is reportedly experiencing an unusually large outbreak of poisonings related to toxic wild death cap mushrooms.

These have proliferated after heavy rain and warm weather this season. The mushrooms contain potent amatoxins, which can result in serious liver damage as well as damage to the kidneys.

Sources shared how they are responsible for some of the most fatal mushroom poisonings around the globe.

Even a tiny amount can be deadly, and the toxins are not destroyed by cooking, boiling, freezing, or drying.

Since the latter part of November, more than three dozen people across various regions, including Northern California and the Central Coast, were said to have been hospitalized after taking these mushrooms.

At least four people were killed, and several others were to require life-saving liver transplants. Victims range widely in terms of age. They can be toddlers to older adults, and some of the cases were said to include those individuals who mistook the toxic mushrooms for edible varieties that they're familiar with.
