Passenger Jet Carrying 165 People Aborts Takeoff at 123mph After Pilot Mixes Up Taxiway with Runway

A Scandinavian Airbus carrying 165 people nearly had a major accident at Brussels Airport in Belgium.

The giant aircraft was said to be operating flight SK2590 to Copenhagen when it was given departure clearance, but mistakenly lined up on the taxiway instead of the designated runway.

Taxiways are designed for slow movement between gates and runways, and not for high-speed takeoff.

Without realizing the major error, the pilots were seen accelerating as if preparing for takeoff. The plane reached roughly 123 mph, approaching typical liftoff speeds, right before the crew noticed something was seriously wrong. This is when they decided to abort takeoff.

The plane was brought to a sudden stop after a very heard brake application, and emergency sevices arrived as a precaution.

Passengers were safely evacuated and transported back to the terminal. Thankfully, no injuries were reported but an investigation is being conducted to see where the miscommuncation arose.
