The GoFundMe campaign dubbed Alex Pretti is an American Hero was rolled out with a modest $20,000 goal but quickly surpassed the $1 million amount in donations, displaying a widespread public outcry and solidarity after his death sparked national protests and debate used by the federal agents during their operations.

Among those contributing was billionaire investor Bill Ackman, who donated $10,000 to Pretti's family through the fundraiser. Ackman's involvement drew a lot of attention, not just for the size of this donation but because he had made a similar donation to the GoFundMe account of Renee Good.
