Girl, 13, jumped to her death off Brooklyn Bridge after heartbreaking series of events

A 13-year-old woman named Jade Smith tragically took her own life by jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge this month.

Her family shared more about how her death was a result of a long series of systemic failures instead of a sudden, isolated moment. As per the lawsuit, city child welfare authorities were seen intervening in the matter after Jade issued claims of abuse, and removed her from her home without fully considering her extensive history of serious mental illness. This entails PTS, dissociative identity disorder, and depression.

The family continued to urge that officials continue to ignore the long list of warnings that were issued and didn't consult any medical providers.

They didn't even provide consistent therapeutic support as her condition got worse with time.

Jade was constantly put in foster settings where she ran away several times, and her loved ones say that every episode reflected both a lack of stable care and catastrophic misunderstandings of her actual needs.
