Trump threatens 25% tariff on European allies including the UK until Denmark sells Greenland to US

President Trump recently shared that he would be imposing increasing tariffs on eight nations in the EU unless the US is given the green light to purchase Greenland.

The matter has led to increased tensions between Washington and NATO allies, who called the matter a bold blackmail that was designed to intimidate them to step back.

Trump shared the news through a post on Truth Social, where he said that this would come into effect starting February 1. The US would levy an additional 10% tariff on all imports from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland.

He added that these tariffs would increase to 25% on June 1 if no agreement is reached for the complete and total purchase of the country.

Trump continues to frame Greenland for its strategic location in the Arctic region and its rich mineral resources as vital to US security.

Many Greenland citizens came out on the streets to protest against the possible annexation of their nation by the US, urging Trump to let them be free.
