Woman left to 'freeze to death' on mountain by her boyfriend identified as questions swirl

A 33-year-old woman from Salzburg who reportedly froze to death on top of the highest peak in Austria has been identified.

The woman named Kerstin Gurtner was reportedly seen on terrifying webcam footage with her lover, who chose to leave her alone on the Grossglockner during a winter climb. As per the authorities, Thomas Plamberger was the one who organized this summit and served as her ultimate guide. But little did she know that he would turn his back on her despite her falling very sick during the ascent.

Sources shared how she became so hypothermic and disoriented and was clearly struggling to go further. This is the point where he opted to leave her unprotected and exhausted, exposing her to the lethal freezing cold weather. She also had no proper shelter or gear, as shown in the footage. At that point, he left her alone and descended alone to get help.

The climbers were said to be facing some very brutal conditions in the form of harsh winters and strong winds, with temperatures hitting below freezing. Investigations are currently taking place to determine why this incident arose in the first place and why he chose to leave her unattended and go down alone, never returning to help her.

Her remains were found near the summit the next day, and now he’s been charged with manslaughter by gross negligence.
