At least 15 rushed to hospital as explosion rips through boat leaving victims ‘badly burnt’ at Florida tourist hotspot

A horrifying boat explosion in South Florida waters left nearly 11 people, including a child, hospitalized for serious burns and other traumatic injuries on Saturday.

More than 25 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units were seen rushing, alongside the US Coast Guard, to the scene of the incident.

This is after repeated calls for a boat blast arose near the Haulover Sandbar which is one of Miami's most bustling tourist spots. This was at about 12:48 pm as per officials. One child reportedly suffered from serious burns across 18% of his body, and another adult was seen suffering from nearly 30% of his body, as per the Miami Herald.

Officials designated the incident as a Level 2 Mass Casualty incident due to the number of victims. Miami Dade Fire Rescue originally claimed 15 people were hospitalized, but later that reduced to the number of 11.

Victims were then transported on lifeboats to nearby fuel docks before getting rushed to a nearby local hospital as per the dispatch audio. Air rescue teams were also seen transporting people to safety as investigations continue.
