An investigation is currently underway after a woman ended up falling to her death from a balcony aboard a cruise ship off California.
The tragedy arose on the Carnival Firenze, which is a nearly 1000-foot-long Italian-themed party boat that's operated by Carnival Corporation, that departed from Long Beach and was on its way to Mexico through Catalina Island.
Company spokeswoman Julie Leonardi mentioned in a statement that the victim had fallen from her stateroom balcony on the deck below but couldn't disclose her identity or the circumstances that led up to the matter.
The female guest was said to be traveling with loved ones who alerted the ship's crew of the matter.
Carnival's Care Team is now supporting the guest's family, and the company says their thoughts and prayers remain with them and their loved ones during this time.
They also mentioned how all the respective authorities were informed about the matter immediately.
Law enforcement was able to board the ship and collect data when it docked at Catalina, which is a resort island that lies 22 miles southwest of LA in the Pacific.
