Shocking reports are claiming that a major warning has been issued for a tsunami after a giant earthquake struck the northeast coast of Japan recently.
The earthquake hit off the Sanriku coast at about 4:53 pm local time, with the quake's epicenter being located at latitude 39.8 north and longitude 143.2 east, as per the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The massive quake arose at a depth of about 10km and had a preliminary magnitude of 7.4. However, before that, the news from the European Mediterranean Seismological Center mentioned that the magnitude recorded was 7.3.
The seismic intensity was also recorded as upper 5 on Japan's seismic scale, which goes up to 7. As per this scale, the upper 5 indicates that most people find it hard to walk without holding on to a stable object, and that unfixed furniture could fall over.

So far, no casualties have been reported as news outlets continue to monitor the situation.
