Multiple people have been confirmed injured after reports of gunshots being heard close to a major university in the USA were revealed.
Police and first responders were seen rushing to the scene early this morning, with a heavy barrage of security forces seen close to the University of Iowa in Iowa City following this incident in the early hours of today. Some reports indicate violence erupting in the form of gunfire at a massive brawl on campus.
Several pieces of footage released online show dozens of people scrambling for cover after loud gunshots were heard.
As per an emergency alert rolled out by the University of Iowa today, the incident arose close to the campus on College Street and Clinton Street. Police advised people to avoid this area as much as possible.
Investigations are taking place to determine what exactly went on as a red alert has been issued to all citizens to avoid the area and be aware of their surroundings. There have been no further updates since 4 am by the university, but footage seen on social media showed dozens of people appearing to run from the incident.o
