NFL player Chris Payton-Jones, 30, dead in a Florida car crash: ‘A great player but even better person’

Former NFL star Chris Payton has died in Florida in a car accident that took place at night. He was only 30 at the time of his death.

The news has left the sports world in mourning as sources revealed how he was driving a Sedan that underwent a head-on collision with a pickup truck in Alachua County, as per media outlets.

Payton was reportedly the only person killed in that tragic crash. Sources shared more about how the truck's three passengers suffered from minor injuries, and his family confirmed his death.

He had signed with the Lions, Titans, Vikings, and Raisers in the past, playing a total of 29 games over six seasons in the league. He ended up recording 48 tackles and seven passes defended in the NFL.

The star, who was a defensive back out of Nebraska, most recently played for the Seattle Battlehawks of the UFL in 2024 after spending 2022 in the XFL with the SeaDragons.
