Dozens Rushed to Hospitals After Car Slams Into Packed US Parade

Nearly 13 people were hospitalized after an impaired driver struck revelers at a parade that was celebrating the Lao New Year in Louisiana, as per officials.

The car reportedly struck several pedestrians on Saturday afternoon at the corner of the street, as per the Sheriff's office. The 57-year-old driver was arrested.

The location was identified as being 8 miles southwest of Lafayette and near the city of New Iberia.

Several people sustained serious injuries, and some of them were believed to be very serious. The crash occurred during a Lao New Year event that happened to be celebrating the Buddhist New Year. Ambulance Services shared on X how it was able to transport nearly 11 patients by ground and two by air as a result of this incident.

The driver was soon taken into custody. As per the police, the suspect was identified as Todd Landry of Jeanerette, which is a small city of nearly 5000 people in Iberia Parish.

Landry showed signs of impairment, and a breathalyzer test indicated that he had blood alcohol content levels of 0.137%, as per the state police, which was way above the legal limit.
