Western Australia’s skies turn a hellish red as Tropical Cyclone Narelle hit, stunning video shows

Skies in parts of Australia's west coast were seen bathing in a very unsettling hue of blood red glow.

Striking images went viral online as the pictures were called out as unbelievably unique and nothing like anything people had seen before. The blood red glow was said to have set in as Tropical Cyclone Narelle bore down on the continent, giving rise to an effect called apocalyptic by some people.

One person who managed to witness it live and share his perspective revealed how it was incredibly eerie outside and reminded him of hellfire-like tones, with everything covered in dust.

The skies in other parts of the region were cloaked in the unusual, but far less terrifying orange radiance that arose due to swirling dust clouds kicked up by the powerful storm.

The ruddy hue arose from the different wavelengths of light that were scattered in the atmosphere, one expert from the Fox Forecast Center shared.

Some colors have shorter wavelengths than others, and when the sun rises or sets, the light ends up casting an effect that passes through thicker portions of the atmosphere.
