Lion King composer sues comedian for $27m after Circle of Life lyrics joke

The composer behind the famous chant at the beginning of Disney's The Lion King is suing the comedian for misrepresenting the meaning of the famous lyrics.

Grammy award winning composer Lebohang Morake, who is famously known as Lebo M, filed a legal case on March 16 in California against comedian Leanmore Joanasi.

Jonasi went viral in the clip from the podcast for making false statements of fact about the meaning of the Nants Ingonyama composition, as per a recently filed complaint obtained.

The chant is used in both the original film from 1994 and its adaptation from the year 2019. Hans Zimmer composed this movie's score, with songs by Elton John and Tim Rice.

Jonasi is now being sued for misleading representation in violation of the Lanthem Act, trade libel, and tortious interference with prospective economic advantage.

The complaint also alleged that Jonasi presented these as authoritative facts and not comedy. And that he's doing this to mock the chant's significance about the cultural aspect by exaggerating its imitations.
