Nancy Guthrie Sheriff Chris Nanos hit with $1M lawsuit

An Arizona sheriff who is said to be involved in the investigation of the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie is now facing a mega lawsuit from a jail inmate who says officials endangered his life.

As per court filings shared with local media outlets, inmate Christopher Michael Marx mentioned more about the lawsuit in federal court filed against Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and the sheriff's department, seeking about $1.35 million in damages. This lawsuit was said to be filed on March 5 and accuses jail officials of failing to protect inmates from possible COVID-19 exposure inside the Pima County Jail.

Marx alleged that a deputy was assigned to work between two housing units in the jail, including one that had been quarantined because of a COVID-19 case. As per the complaint issued, the deputy was allegedly seen moving back and forth between the units without properly disinfecting.

This inmate claims that this put him at serious risk of infection. He further argued that the actions are putting his life in jeopardy, and he cannot afford that, adding that he could have contracted the virus and died.

The lawsuit adds how the sheriff's office failed to enforce safety protocols meant to protect inmates. Marx is requesting financial compensation as well as changes to jail procedures to ensure deputies follow the right sanitation practices when moving between different units.
