A 50-year-old man was fatally stabbed in a brutal attack that prosecutors say followed an argument over gender, with the violence so severe that part of the knife blade reportedly broke off inside his skull.
Larry Young was allegedly attacked by 32-year-old Kelly Day on October 7. According to prosecutors cited in reports, the two became involved in an argument after Young allegedly made comments about Day’s gender identity.
Young reportedly pushed Day before walking away toward a nearby gas station. Prosecutors allege that Day followed him and renewed the confrontation, despite her partner attempting to pull her away.

The situation then turned deadly. According to the prosecution’s account, surveillance footage showed Day standing over Young as he lay on the ground and allegedly stabbing him 13 times in the head, neck and upper shoulders.
Day reportedly called emergency services after the attack, initially claiming she had been injured while defending herself. Authorities later said she gave a different explanation for her finger injury during another call. She was eventually arrested at a hospital while seeking treatment.
Investigators recovered the knife, but part of its blade was missing. Prosecutors said the missing metal tip was later recovered from Young’s skull. The medical examiner determined that Young died from multiple sharp-force injuries.
Day has been charged with first-degree murder and remains in custody as the case moves through the court system. Reports indicate she claimed Young threatened her and used an anti-gay slur, allegations that remain part of the disputed account of the confrontation.
The charges are allegations, and Day is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
