# 13-Year-Old Boy Found Trapped Inside Playground Slide Before a Tragic Discovery

A 13-year-old boy died after a tragic accident inside a playground slide, leaving his family devastated and prompting officials to call for a review of playground equipment.

Olvin Cabrera Valladares went to a park on Sept. 25 after leaving home that morning. His mother, Estefanía Valladares, said he was supposed to go to school but instead went to the playground on his scooter.

Later that day, a man who was visiting the park with his own children discovered Olvin trapped inside the tube slide. According to his mother, the boy’s shirt had become caught on a screw inside the slide. When the man tried to pull him free, Olvin fell out, but his collar had tightened around his neck.

The man began giving Olvin first aid while paramedics rushed to the scene. He was taken to a hospital, where doctors and medical staff worked to save him. His family held onto hope for several days, but Olvin was declared brain dead on Oct. 1, six days after the incident.

Following the incident, the playground was temporarily closed for what the city described as a “non-criminal investigation.” It reopened the next day. A local city commissioner has since called for a broader investigation and a review of playground equipment across the city.

Olvin’s mother has urged other parents to be especially careful when their children use playground equipment, saying her son had his whole life ahead of him.

The tragedy happened at Shenandoah Park in Miami.
