Dolly Parton’s estate is facing a growing legal battle weeks after the country music legend died, with a dispute involving her nephew now unfolding in court as new details about her death emerge.

Parton died on Aug. 25 at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer. Her representatives confirmed the cause of death after she had dealt with several health problems in the months leading up to her death. The specific type of cancer was not disclosed.

Now, Parton’s estate is dealing with a separate legal fight involving her nephew Bryan Seaver, who previously served as her longtime head of security. The company managing Parton’s estate, She's Alive LLC, obtained a temporary restraining order against Seaver after accusing him of making threats and attempting to interfere with the estate’s business operations. Seaver has disputed the allegations.

The dispute has continued to escalate. In a recent court filing, the estate alleged that Seaver was trying to avoid being served with legal documents, claiming a process server encountered a no-trespassing sign and barbed wire around his property. Seaver had requested additional time to find an attorney for the case, and a hearing that had been scheduled for Oct. 9 was moved to Oct. 20.

The legal battle comes as Parton’s estate begins handling the country icon’s business interests and legacy following her death. Parton left behind a career spanning more than six decades, hundreds of songs and a vast entertainment empire.

Her death was initially announced by Seaver himself, who had been chosen to share the news publicly. Now, just weeks later, the family dispute has placed her estate in an unexpected legal battle as questions surrounding the future of her business empire continue.
