A $1.7 million home became the scene of a deadly family shooting after police were called to check on the residents.

David Grodnick, 61, his wife Lora, 62, and their daughter Sloane, 24, were found dead inside the family home on Oct. 2. Authorities determined that Lora and Sloane had been killed and that David died by suicide. The three had suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head, according to prosecutors.

Police had initially been called to the home the previous afternoon after receiving a request for a welfare check. Officers were unable to locate anyone inside, so an investigation began. Authorities returned the following day and entered the home shortly before 6 p.m., where they discovered the three bodies.

Lora and Sloane were found in separate bedrooms, while David was discovered elsewhere in the house with a gun still in his hand. Medical personnel pronounced all three dead at the scene. Investigators said the deaths were an isolated incident and that there was no continuing threat to the public.

David worked as a senior vice president and underwriting counsel for an insurance company. Sloane, 24, had graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design and was pursuing a master’s degree at the Rhode Island School of Design.
The family home was valued at approximately $1.75 million.
