# James Van Der Beek bought $4.8M ranch with help from friends 1 month before death

Actor James Van Der Beek passed away at the age of 48 after a long battle with stage 3 colorectal cancer.

Just one month before his death, his friends helped the star purchase a mega 36-acre ranch near Austin, Texas, for nearly $4.8 million, which is a property that his family had been renting since 2020.

The ranch featured a giant main house, cabins, and scenic views around the Pedernales River.

It was bought to give his wife, Kimberly, and their six kids a permanent home. His rep mentioned more about the down payment being secured with the help of close friends through a trust, enabling them to shift from renting to ownership.

After his death, friends and supporters of the star rolled out a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the living and medical expenses for the famiy which swiftly raised more than $2 million.

It's believed to be an investment so that his widow and the kids don't need to worry in the future after his death.
