A small passenger plane has crashed in northeastern Colombia on Wednesday, killing all 15 people on board, including the country's lawmaker and political candidate, Carlos Salcedo.
Sources from local media outlets shared more on this front, including how the plane was a two-engine Beechcraft 1900 turboprop that was operated by state-owned Satena Airlines.
The plane was said to be on a short domestic flight from Cucuta to Ocana near the country's border with Venezuela.
After takeoff, just before noon hours, air traffic control lost contact with the flight for nearly 12 minutes into the journey. The plane's emergency beacon never activated, and officials were yet to determine the cause of this crash as the investigation took place.
Search and rescue teams later located the wreckage of the missing plane in a remote, mountainous region of the Norte de Santander department, which was a sparsely populated area known for dense jungle and coca cultivation.
Also called Diogenes Quintero, who was a member of Colombia's House of Representatives who stood for the conflict-affected Catatumbo region, and was famous for being a human rights defender.
