# NJ Teacher, 35, Arrested After a Hotel Room Encounter Took a Disturbing Turn

A 35-year-old New Jersey teacher was arrested after a man accused her and another woman of restraining him and taking $1,250 from his digital payment account during a hotel room encounter, according to a report by the _New York Post_.

Amanda Crafts, a former computer teacher at Middle Township Middle School, was arrested alongside 23-year-old Veda Engel following the alleged incident at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City on October 9, 2026.

According to the criminal complaint, the man met the two women at Caesars Atlantic City before Engel allegedly invited him to a hotel room. The man told authorities that the encounter took an unexpected turn when he was allegedly restrained while Engel used his phone’s facial recognition feature to access Apple Pay.

The complaint alleges that four separate transfers totaling $1,250 were made to Engel’s account.

However, Crafts’ attorney strongly disputed the allegations against his client. Lawyer Charles Peruto Jr. said Crafts was unaware of any alleged prostitution arrangement and believed the group was simply going to continue partying at the hotel.

Crafts also reportedly told a judge that she had never been arrested before and believed she was “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Both women were held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility for six days before being released on October 15, according to the report.

The case has also had consequences for Crafts’ professional life. She had worked at Middle Township Middle School since 2016, but the school district confirmed on October 19 that she was no longer employed there.

Meanwhile, Engel reportedly had a previous prostitution-related charge stemming from a separate 2025 incident.

The allegations against Crafts remain disputed, and the criminal case has not established her guilt. Her attorney maintains that she had no involvement in the alleged theft.
