# Florida Cop Allegedly Takes Over Dead Man’s House, Then Sues for More Than $200,000

A Florida police officer is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly taking over a deceased man’s home, using his identity, and later seeking more than $200,000 for renovations made to the property.

The officer, identified as Brian Louis Sguros, reportedly first encountered the 71-year-old homeowner during a welfare check about four years ago. The man was found dead, and the circumstances that followed have now become the focus of a criminal investigation.

According to allegations, Sguros later used the deceased man’s identity and took control of his home. Investigators claim the officer remained involved with the property for an extended period, despite the homeowner’s death.

The case took another turn when Sguros allegedly sought more than $214,000 from the dead man’s heirs, claiming compensation for renovations and other work connected to the house. That demand reportedly brought further scrutiny to the officer’s actions and the circumstances surrounding his control of the property.

Authorities have since arrested Sguros, who faces multiple felony charges related to the allegations. The case raises serious questions about the alleged use of a deceased person’s identity and the handling of property after an owner’s death.

Investigators are continuing to examine the evidence, including the alleged identity misuse and the claims made regarding renovation costs. The accusations have not yet been proven in court, and Sguros is entitled to due process as the case moves forward.

What began as a welfare check has now developed into a complex case involving a dead homeowner, a disputed property, and a substantial financial claim against the man’s family. Further legal proceedings are expected to clarify the allegations and determine the outcome.
