The reunion comes after Harry traveled to the UK for a week of engagements, including events tied to the Invictus Games, the charity he founded. Initial security concerns had prevented Meghan and the children from traveling with him, but arrangements were later made to allow the family visit to go ahead.
The last time Charles saw Archie and Lilibet in person was during Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. Since then, Harry has made several solo visits to the UK, including for his grandmother's funeral and his father's coronation, but Meghan and the children had not returned. The most recent contact between Harry and his father took place in September, when the two shared a private tea at Clarence House.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the family gathering took place but noted that, as a private occasion, no images would be released. The meeting is widely being seen as a meaningful step in the gradual thawing of relations between Harry and the royal family following years of public tension.
